Editorial – Regional cooperation and integration for the advancement of genetics and clinical genomics

Resumen

Clinical genetics in Latin America has experienced significant growth driven by the incorporation of molecular and cytogenetic technologies, as well as new therapeutic alternatives. This process has been accompanied by professional training and collaborative efforts aimed at consolidating precision diagnostic services.

In this issue of the Genetics and Clinical Genomics Journal, contributions from experts across several countries highlight advances and challenges in the region. Among them are the implementation of legislative frameworks, the strengthening of local diagnostic capacities, and the need to expand public health services.

The issue also includes original studies addressing the relationship between metabolic syndrome and chronic kidney disease in hemodialysis patients, along with an analysis of gene structure and regulatory elements with direct implications for clinical practice.
